Matara Bodhiya
Born from the mountain of the Buddha's wisdom and flowing with the cooling waters of the Noble Eightfold Path, may the river of the Sublime Dhamma reach the great ocean of Nirvana. May it flow forevermore, healing the sorrows of all living beings in Samsara.
As one enters the city of Matara, an awe-inspiring sight immediately captures the eyes, instilling a profound sense of limitless devotion and reverence toward the Supreme Buddha, the Great Awakened One. This is the Historic Matara Bodhi Tree, standing amidst a tranquil and serene environment in the heart of the bustling city—a silent testament to a historical legend dating back as far as 515 AD.
Ancient chronicles and folklore confirm that the site possesses a historical background tracing back to the reign of King Kumaradasa (515 AD), who is celebrated as a great royal poet of this land. Botanical research has revealed that the Historic Matara Bodhi Tree belongs to the same lineage as the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.

To refrain from all evil, to cultivate what is good, and to purify one’s own mind—this is the teaching of all Buddhas. This 'Right Effort' (Samma Vayama) is dedicated to sharing that sublime word of the Buddha with society.
Among those who live afflicted by the sickness of defilements, let us live happily, free from such illness. Amidst those who are spiritually ill, let us dwell in perfect health.
The doer of good rejoices in this world, and he rejoices in the next; he rejoices in both. He rejoices, thinking, 'I have done good.' He rejoices even more when he has gone to a state of bliss.

Those who understand the Dhamma well-expounded by the Buddha and live in accordance with its teachings, shall cross the ocean of Samsara—so difficult to traverse—and reach the shore of Nirvana.
